Over the pandemic my comedy cover band Uke and Tuba was unable to meet up and jam due to lockdown. So I decided to come up with a little digital art exercise to still engage with the band project. make a number of fake albums covers and back stories for the albums. I made one a day for a month and these are some of my favorite.
Uke and Tuba
This is Uke and Tuba’s self titled album during our early 2010s venture into shoegaze surf rock.
Q-R4
1990’s Q-R4 is a psych drone experience. The album features a number of longer field recordings done by each of the Uke and Tuba band members taken various at band dinners in restaurants across the city of Pittsburgh.
Starburp
2014’s “Star Burp”, is high concept. It came with 2 LPs “Star” + “Burp”. “Star” is to be played at full volume in the living room and depicts a loud party featuring many band friends. “Burp” is an intimate Uke and Tuba set to be listened to simultaneously in a bathroom down the hall.
Transfer Process
2012’s Transfer Process was praised for its subtle beats and overall chill vibes. The band was sued however for using an unauthorized sample from the Alvin and the Chipmunks television show and was forced to take the album out of print.
Party {A=B}
2002’s “Party {A=B}” was originally released as an fanclub exclusive hand mailed and signed by the band. Due to overwhelming demand and praise it was released widely 6 months later worldwide.

1988’s Dreary Days is a grunge infused indie folk Uke and Tuba album. None of the Tracks are numbered only named. The album came with liner notes stating that the album should be set to shuffle repeat and played until you cannot take it anymore.
Defiant Crest
2011’s Defiant Crest is hypnotically dreamy. It was bound to happen eventually, Uke and Tuba discovered Loop pedals. On average the tracks on this album feature 42 individual looping instruments. The last track of the album fades out for 12 minutes ends with a woopie cushion.
Good Evening!
1982’s Good Evening! The percussion on this album is legendary. 15 tambourines, a taiko drum squad, a stoner drum circle all make prominent appearances. Julia’s tactful use of blast beats in particular really set the tone for the back half of this Uke and Tuba album.
UTCD
2015’s UTCD is the bands only strictly synth house album. A custom Midi Tuba was developed by top scientists to find the exact tonality the band was looking for.
Hearth
1996’s Hearth is a 6 track EP of folk songs. all recorded in a single take. To this day the band has never performed a single track off this album on stage live. in interviews Julia has said that this is due to the fact that no one even remembers recording it or how to play it.
Hearth Remixes
2002’s Re:hearth doesn’t actually feature Uke and Tuba but a musical super group of band friends playing re-imagined version of the songs the band can’t remember off of Hearth. All your favorite appearances from the Uke and Tuba Album’ic Universe from Caribbean Andy to Joe.

What shredded me
2000’s “What shredded me” is one of those moments in the bands career where Uke and Tuba felt the need to follow trends. So for year 2000 this Neo Swing revival album was a little late to the party. This album is rightfully lampooned for its over use of the slide whistle.
Main Street
1981’s Main Street is just a great time had by all. This up-tempo rock album really showcases just how exciting and bouncy Uke and Tuba can be. When Caitlin finally suggested that the band shouldn’t try so hard to be cool or serious and just have fun, the band really found itself.
Land of Enchantment
2016’s “Land of Enchantment” dream-pop album was written about the time Uke and Tuba looked for a box car to hop aboard and play shows along the train routes. They spent a day walking some tracks looking for a train, only to discover the tracks had been converted to bike trails.

SYMPHONY NO1 NO ADAGIO
1965’s Symphony Number 1 was recorded live with full orchestra as an audience. One of the few Uke and Tuba albums to include a full 10+ minute radio play that serves as an interlude between the first and second half of the album. overall a real tearjerker of an album.
20th Century Masters
2020s 20th Century Masters The Millennial Collection. The remastered version on ” “Undone” by Weezer ” by Uke and Tuba actually includes a skit at the beginning of the song. The skit is actual audio of uke and tuba talking to a fan back stage that happens to be the same.
